World Cup Hero Harry Returns

Saint Aidan’s welcomed an international Rugby League star back to his old school last week.  Harry Rushton, who left Saint Aidan’s in 2018, has played down under with Canberra Raiders and is now on the books of Huddersfield Giants.  Harry came back to Saint Aidan’s to make a gift of an international cap and jersey he wore playing for Ireland in last year’s Rugby League World Cup.  He was also able to see the school’s new state of the art Sports Hall and Fitness Suite, which provide even better facilities for the next generation of sports stars coming up through the school.
Harry said, “It was great to come back and visit school five years after leaving. I couldn’t be more thankful for everything the school did for me while I was there, it was a massive part of my early career. The sports facilities now are top standard and will be great for young aspiring athletes going through high school.”
Headteacher Mr Smith, who comes from Ireland, said, “We are really proud of Harry’s achievements, but not surprised.  He was a super student on and off the sports field, and his success is richly deserved.  I am particularly pleased to have an Irish shirt and cap to display in our Sports Hall.”
