World Book Week – Reading Champions

By
As part of our World Book Week celebrations — and the National Year of Reading — we kicked off the week with a bang!
On Monday 2nd March, eight Year 9 students (forming two teams) travelled to Colne to compete in the North West heat of the National Reading Champions Quiz.
Twenty-three teams took part in a challenging competition that tested their knowledge of a wide range of books. With no set reading list provided in advance, preparation was no easy task!
Both of our teams performed exceptionally well, finishing in 4th and 10th place — a fantastic achievement in such a competitive field.
It was an unforgettable experience for our students and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate not only their impressive knowledge, but also their genuine love of reading.
Events like this remind us of the vital importance of reading. Reading broadens horizons, builds empathy, strengthens vocabulary and communication skills, and supports success across the curriculum. Most importantly, it nurtures curiosity and imagination — qualities that will benefit our students far beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of how they represented our school and championed the joy of books.
Roll on next year – we can’t wait to do it all again!
