Proposed Sports Hall 2022

By

In the 58 years since its opening in 1963, Saint Aidan’s has outgrown its initial school buildings. Over the last 40 years numerous specialised buildings have appeared on the site to support the growing school population and to meet a curriculum which is both modern and diverse.

PE and Sport is one subject that has benefited from these new builds. Originally the school had a multipurpose school hall. The hall was replaced by a purpose built two badminton court Gymnasium in 2000. However this only met some of the ambitions of the PE staff and student body. Something larger which would facilitate the teaching of many more sports and activities was needed.

Mr Armfield joined the staff in 1985 and even then the wish was to have a large purpose built sports hall like many other schools had at the time. During his 36 years we have tried and failed on numerous occasions to get the necessary funding and planning permission for a sports hall.

Thanks to the Diocese and the Governing body, we are now in a position to formally announce that the building of our new multi-purpose sports hall will commence shortly. The building should be ready for use by September 2022.

This hugely exciting and very ambitious project will provide the school with a sporting facility for the 21st Century, one we can all be very proud of.

It will boost the quality and provision of sport in our school, providing current and future students with so many new sporting opportunities.
