Thank you to everyone from Over Wyre Benefice who helped create such an engaging and memorable event on Sunday 13 September at Saint Aidan’s, bringing together pupils, families, staff and members of the wider community.
The Family Fun Day provided a fantastic opportunity for worship, fellowship and fun. The theme for the day was Story, exploring God’s story and His invitation for us to know more of Him.
Those attending were invited to vote for their favourite hymns and school assembly bangers. It was especially interesting to discover that the most popular traditional hymn was How Great Thou Art, while the favourite assembly banger was Shine, Jesus, Shine. There was also an opportunity to enjoy more contemporary worship songs, including Waymaker.
We are also grateful to Rev. Naomi Barraclough, who led the service and engaged children of all ages through a range of creative activities, including colouring, crafts and interactive worship. Her enthusiasm and warmth helped create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.
A special thank you must also go to The Right Reverend Dr Matthew Porter, Bishop of Bolton, who shared part of his own story and encouraged us to reflect on the power of prayer, particularly during those times when doors can seem firmly closed.
A particular highlight of the day was a visit from the amazing Steve the Juggler, who brought the story of the Bible to life through a combination of entertaining props, humour and impressive juggling skills. Children and adults alike were captivated by his performance and enjoyed the opportunity to try some juggling skills of their own.
We were equally inspired by our own school chaplain, Mrs Lyndsay Arnfield, who shared part of her personal testimony and spoke about occasions when God had done what seemed humanly impossible.
Following lunch, families enjoyed further activities, including opportunities to learn new skills, attend a Communion service and take part in a prayer walk. The day concluded with ice creams in the sunshine, providing a fitting end to a wonderful occasion at Saint Aidan’s.
Thank you once again to Rev. Naomi Barraclough, Bishop Matthew Porter, Mrs Lyndsay Arnfield, Steve the Juggler, and all those from Over Wyre Benefice whose hard work and commitment made the day such a success. It was a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, reflect on God’s story and enjoy fellowship in the beautiful surroundings of Saint Aidan’s.
