On Monday 9th February, Saint Aidan’s welcomed the Hinduism Education Service back for a day of interactive workshops with our Year 7 students. The goal of the day was to move beyond the classroom and give our students a more practical look at Hindu life and Indian culture.
The students spent the day trying out various traditions, including learning the basics of traditional dance and chanting. There was also a chance to try on saris and turbans, which our students loved! It was great to see everyone getting involved, and it really helped the students feel immersed in what they were learning.
We finished the day with a mock Hindu wedding ceremony. This was a great way to tie everything together, as it let the students see how the different rituals and symbols they’ve been learning about in class actually look in practice.
The hall was filled with music, incense, and plenty of colour. A big thank you to the team who came in; it was a really valuable experience for the students to hear from people who live the religion every day.
