Hastings comes to Preesall

14th October 1066 is one of the most famous days in English history.  On that day, troops led by Duke William of Normandy overcame King Harold’s Saxon army and, within a couple of months, William was crowned king – and forever became known as William the Conqueror.  And now, 959 years later, the events of that Autumn day close to the South Coast have been recreated by Mr Wood and his Year 7 students.

Having studied the battle in detail, the students were able to re-enact the famous events at Senlac Hill.  Normans and Saxons alike battled (playfully) until William was able to declare victory.  With home-made shields and warrior faces, the students lived out that historical turning-point on the school field.

History teacher Mr Wood said, “It was great to have 7W enter the spirit of learning outside the classroom. The shields looked fantastic and were built to be robust. Unfortunately, the Normans won again this year.”
