Faith in Action: Worship Leaders Inspired at Lancashire’s House of Prayer

By

This week, a group of Worship Champions and Form Worship Leaders enjoyed a special day at Turret House in Clitheroe, The House of Prayer for Lancashire.

Accompanied by our school chaplain, Mrs Lyndsay Arnfield, pupils spent the day exploring what worship looks like in practice and developing the skills needed to lead worship confidently within our school community. The visit formed part of our continued commitment to placing pupil leadership at the heart of worship at Saint Aidan’s.

Throughout the day, students took part in a range of activities focused on prayer, reflection and worship leadership. They explored different ways of engaging with prayer, discovering that prayer can be expressed creatively through writing, art, reflection and practical activities, as well as through more traditional approaches.

The training will help pupils in their important role as Form Worship Leaders. Each week, students help deliver worship within tutor groups, leading activities linked to themes explored in collective worship. From reflective activities on Mondays and prayer-focused sessions on Thursdays to leading discussions and presentations on Fridays, these young leaders play a valuable role in shaping the spiritual life of the school.

Pupils also spent time considering how to create meaningful prayer and reflection spaces for others. The experience encouraged them to think carefully about how worship can engage people in different ways and how they can help others explore questions of faith.

Mrs Arnfield commented, “It was wonderful to see our students engaging so enthusiastically with the day. They represented Saint Aidan’s brilliantly and embraced the opportunity to develop their confidence as worship leaders.”

The pupils who attended will now share what they learnt with other Worship Leaders back in school, helping to strengthen and develop worship opportunities across the Saint Aidan’s community.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to grow in confidence, develop their communication and leadership skills, and deepen their understanding of faith and worship. We look forward to seeing how they use these experiences to inspire and encourage others throughout the year.
