At the start of the Easter holidays Mrs. Rossall, Mrs. Salmon and Mr. Morgan took 19 students on an adventure packed few days to Pompeii and Rome. We had an early start, leaving school by coach to travel to Manchester Airport for our flight to Naples. When we arrived in Naples, we were met by our Italian coach driver who was taking us to Pompeii.
George tells us about his experience of Pompeii:
On our trip to Pompeii, we got to experience a town paused in history. We walked through the streets that Romans would have walked down thousands of years ago. We got to see houses the Romans lived in and see the volcano that destroyed them. We saw the amphitheater where the Romans would have watched shows.
My friends and I got to eat in a cafe built into an old roman building where we had the nicest pasta and got to look over the whole town, we could see Mount Vesuvius in the distance. Overall, the visit to Pompeii gave us an insight into the Roman way of life and let us learn more about Roman history.
After our visit to Pompeii, we set off on our long
journey to Rome, this would take us almost 3 hours.
When we arrived in Rome, we had a short walk to
our Hotel which was situated next to the main train
station. A quick freshen up and we were off out for tea.
Mrs. Rossall and Mrs. Salmon found the best pizza’s ever,
of course the rest of the party went to McDonalds!
Day 2 started with an open top bus tour seeing some of the most amazing sights we had ever seen before our arranged guided tour of The Colosseum.
Daniel tells us a little of his experience:
The colosseum was one of, if not the best attraction in Rome that we went to. I thoroughly enjoyed walking around the top of the colosseum as the views were amazing! The walls were super tall and the entire time you would think to yourself, how in the world have they built this? 10/10 experience.
After we visited The Colosseum, we travelled across Rome to The Basilica and The Vatican Museum, we had a wonderful guide called Fabio who told us so many interesting facts.
Here’s Isla’s report on The Basilica:
The Basilica was breathtaking. The artwork was amazing and every piece told a story. What really was the best was the ceilings, they were so detailed. You could tell they took time to paint. The building was huge, the statues and the colours used were on point. I loved the fact they had candles to light; I lit two, one each for my Grandma and Grandad. Overall, this experience was a once in a lifetime experience.
Minnie tells us about The Vatican Museum:
The visit to The Vatican Museum was an amazing experience and something I had been looking forward to. As we walked through different galleries, we saw beautiful paintings, detailed sculptures and incredible ceilings filled with more art and meaning. It was fascinating to learn about the stories behind the artwork. Fabio our tour guide, was really funny and lovely, he explained everything clearly, so it was easy to understand. He shared interesting facts and meanings behind things. The visit was not only educational but also really memorable for us all. My favourite art, was the art on the ceilings, it was beautiful.
