Auf Wiedersehen, Kristina!

By

Over the past three weeks, we have been delighted to welcome Kristina Ruder-Pohlmann to Saint Aidan’s as part of the Host a Teacher from Germany Programme. Organised by UK-German Connection, a bilateral government initiative, the programme aims to strengthen understanding and build lasting connections between young people in the UK and Germany.

Kristina is an English and History teacher from IGS Wardenburg in north-west Germany. During her stay, she worked with students across all year groups studying German at Saint Aidan’s, supporting lessons in the classroom and leading speaking sessions with smaller groups.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed learning with Kristina and gained a fascinating insight into school life in Germany. Many were envious to discover that German students do not wear school uniform and typically finish school at 12.45pm each day—although the 7.30am start proved rather less appealing!

Kristina also thoroughly enjoyed her time at Saint Aidan’s and was very grateful for the warm welcome she received from both staff and students. She embraced every aspect of school life, including attending the Year 11 Prom on her final evening. Reflecting on her visit, she commented on how polite, well-behaved and respectful our students were, and how welcomed she had felt throughout her stay.

We would like to thank Kristina for everything she has contributed during her visit and wish her every success as she returns to Germany. We look forward to developing further links with IGS Wardenburg in the weeks and months ahead.
