On Thursday evening, more than 230 members of the Saint Aidan’s community came together for this year’s gala dinner at The Villa. With around 173 guests attending the banquet and a further 60 pupils involved in delivering the event, it was a wonderful celebration of everything that makes Team Saint Aidan’s special.
As a new member of staff, this was one of those events that helped me understand what makes Saint Aidan’s unique. Long before guests arrived, pupils had already invested significant time and effort into preparing for the evening.
The experience began well before the event itself. Pupils interested in taking part were required to submit a professional letter of application, demonstrating their interest in and suitability for the role. Those involved in the evening’s musical performances also auditioned, ensuring that every aspect of the event reflected the high standards that have become synonymous with the gala dinner.
What makes the evening particularly special is that pupils are entrusted with genuine responsibility. Year 11 students worked alongside staff to create the menu, while others took on leadership roles including Restaurant Manager, Assistant Restaurant Manager and Head Waitress. Throughout the evening, pupils managed hospitality, welcomed guests, served food and drinks, supported the smooth running of the restaurant and delivered outstanding entertainment.
Guests were treated to a series of musical performances throughout the evening, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere. Combined with thoughtfully designed table decorations and excellent service, the event demonstrated the remarkable range of talents and skills our pupils possess.
Now in its 18th year, the gala dinner continues to provide students with valuable experiences that help prepare them for future education and employment. Many former pupils have gone on to pursue opportunities within hospitality, catering and the food industry, inspired by the experiences gained through this very event. Equally important are the wider skills developed along the way, including communication, teamwork, organisation and leadership.
A huge thank you must go to Mrs Rossall and her team for their continued hard work and commitment in organising this special event. We would also like to thank Mrs Salmon, Mrs Marsden, Mr Ireland, Mrs MacPhee, Mr Wright, Mr Charnock and Mr Dalton for their support, as well as the staff at The Villa for helping make the evening such a success.
Most importantly, thank you to our pupils. Whether they were planning menus, preparing food, managing the restaurant, welcoming guests, performing on stage or working behind the scenes, they represented Saint Aidan’s brilliantly. Their professionalism, enthusiasm and willingness to take responsibility were at the heart of an evening enjoyed by everyone who attended.
Events like this do not happen by accident. They rely on a community of people giving their time, energy and talents for the benefit of others. Thursday’s gala dinner was a wonderful example of Team Saint Aidan’s at its very best.
