Looking for a school place for your child? Ring 01253 810504 to arrange to see us in action during the school day.

At Saint Aidan’s, we firmly believe that learning should not be just confined to the classroom. All our students should have the chance to experience a whole range of opportunities that add breadth to, and complement, their learning.

Over seventy activities take place each week in school at lunchtime and after school to extend and broaden our students’ experience. Activities include learning a new language, Young Chefs, building an electric car, producing a radio programme for broadcast on the internet, playing in our brass band, a wide range of sporting activities, Duke of Edinburgh Award and many more.

In addition to activities in school, a great many diverse and challenging educational visits are also organised throughout the year for all our students. These include a Geography Field Course at Hothersall Lodge, Leisure and Tourism visits to Old Trafford, and a range of theatre trips.

Exchange visits afford students the opportunity to experience other cultures and improve their language skills. Every year the Languages Faculty take groups of students to Germany where they stay with host families and later in the year return the hospitality.

Study and cultural trips feature in the school calendar. Visits to Rome and Pompeii support and enrich the study of art and extra-curricular Latin. Recently a group of students from Years 7 to 11 had the opportunity to visit China experiencing a remarkable culture and seeing some of the world’s most inspirational tourist attractions. Our Afri-Twin link with South Africa gives students an opportunity to work with students from a very different culture.

In order to challenge our most able students, visits are organised to London to participate in newspaper production and to critically review a West End show. Tours of the BBC and Sky provide a fascinating insight into the world of television. Groups of students have attended Chemistry at Work events and Science conferences at Manchester University. Students can also study Astronomy GCSE after school which adds quite a unique dimension to their education.
